Having successfully conducted promotion of basketball in Tumkur Distt in the last three years - SUMPOORNA strives to provide similar facility to the whole state of Karnataka [from wherever the `call' comes].
YOU DONOT HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING! You are to provide for food and accomodation of the `TRAINERS' during the training `camp' period.
The following points are to be accepted if you want us to provide for training in your instituion:
1. Camps would be conducted for TWO or THREE DAYS maximum.
2. The official letter signed by physical education teachers and counter- signed by the head of the institution requesting for `camp'.
3. The trainees must be made available from 6am to 6pm - except for food and rest breaks.
4. Selection of the `trainees' should normally be done on the basis of `interest' of students. All children selected should be below 15 years.
5. Co-education training is provided wherever co-education exists.
6. A RE-VISIT CAMP would be provided after a minimum of three months - if needed.
SUMPOORNA provides the service in the interest of the nation as a patriotic duty - so a `code of conduct' will be followed by all trainees, players, volunteers and coaches.

SUBHASH MAHAJAN - BASKETBALL - THE MAN FROM KAPURTHALA
After 56 years I suddenly understand why I am a basketball player, coach and promoter. I AM FROM KAPURTHALA - the nursery for basketball players of India - CAN ANY TOWN BOAST OF four Arjuna awardees in Basketball.
Can you believe that the first captain of Indian baskebtall team was from Kapurthala - NOW HOLD IT!
The first captain of Pakistan basketball team was ALSO FROM KAPURTHALA.
Its easy to ignore history - but it always repeats itself with a vengenance. As I lived the first nine years of my childhood [before being bundled off to
The Punjab Public School, Nabha] I think the genes of basketball were being sown in me by just being a Kapurthalaite. AND I CAPTAINED THE HOUSE TEAM when in ninth and CAPTAINED the school team when in tenth.
Now I have established SUMPOORNA BASKETBALL SCHOOL - sumpoorna [subhash mahajan son of Shri Puran Chand Gupta] - KAPURTHALA HAS REACHED BETTA SHAMBHUNAHALLI - an effort to rewrite the glorious history of basketball.
I think my new name should be SUBHASH MAHAJAN KAPURTHALIA -
do you like it?

TUMKUR BASKETBALL - SUMPOORNA CUP 2009!
Promoting the game of basketball is no more a difficult job. The hoop manaics are growing in number every day.
ANNOUNCE A TOURNAMENT AND EVERYONE PRETENDS TO BE THE N.B.A. MOST VALUABLE PLAYER!
But when 4th standard students call you up late in the night to inform that they also have a BASKETBALL TEAM - the promoter in me is delirious with delight. What next ? 3rd and 2nd standard students---we too want a tournament.
In all my years of teaching basketball I have strived to get younger and younger players to start off playing. The stirring of my soul speaks - A CHILD AT PLAY IS GOD AT WORK.
I hear small `negatives' - tests are there; ground permission is difficult; some promises have been belied - YET TUMKUR WILL HAVE ITS' TRYST WITH BASKETBALL - SUMPOORNA CUP 2009 is the answer to all those doubting thomases. When the going gets tough - the tough get going, whoever said this - had envisaged the paradox of person promoting sports in India.
TUMKUR SHALL HAVE ONE DAY A N.B.A.PLAYER! IS IT YOU?

SUMPOORNA - THE PILLOW - OUTSIDE WORLD - BED OF COBBLESTONES
What is it about SUMPOORNA that you brag about it so much? Friends ask me and I too wonder what is it ?
A poor man asked a rich man `what is so special' about soft mattresses, rich food, costly musical systems - why can't you find comfort in sleeping on floors - simple food and an ordinary radio.
The predicament is simple - SUMPOORNA is a dream actualised where wishes have become horses and WE CAN RIDE THEM! I realise this - the children who come here realise it - the `others' not only donot realise it - they cannot even imagine it.
I WISH AND I AM GRANTED THAT WISH - that is SUMPOORNA for me and the other sumpoornites. Sumpoorna is a place without care, where I can dare to dream, where peace and tranquility persist, where the bouncing basketball exhorts me to FOCUS - inspires me to a greatness that is within me. It alows me to REST AND RECHARGE myself for the unreasonable environment that I must return to.
SUMPOORNA is the pillow on which I rest my head as I try to sleep on the bed of cobblestones of the outside world.

JOIN THE WAR TO MAKE INDIA A SPORTING SUPER POWER
When I was very young, I dreamt of climbing Mt.Everest - of course, my mountaineering trainer told me I WAS TOO YOUNG! And, indeed, how amazed I was when at the age of 14 years - the same trainer asked me to lead a group of 20 hardened trekkers to ROHTANG PASS during the most scary climatic conditions.
My athletics coach told me that 100 meters sprint is only for strong, muscular and tall students - AND WHEN I CAME THIRD in the finals, his joy knew no bounds.
My basketball coach told me basketball is for TALL PLAYERS. Yet, he made me the captain of a team in which all players were my seniors by two years and topped me in height by 20-30cms.
Leading Indian coaches and trainers tell their wards that because of climatic conditions or because of genetics or because of environmental factors INDIANS cannot be world class athletes, football players, basketball players, gymnasts, swimmers etc. etc. This nation has lived with these LIES for a long time. The shame for this great nation must be removed and INDIA MUST TAKE ITS RIGHTFUL PLACE IN THE SPORTING WORLD. The mindsets have to be changed - from CAN'T DO we have to move to CAN DO. And evertime we fail - we will reach nearer and nearer to VICTORY.
I BELIEVE THAT INDIA CAN BE A SPORTING SUPER POWER - care to join me?

I want to win - I want to win - I want to win ?
All beginners of basketball want to win matches and when they come up against experienced players - they lose hope and are easily discouraged. No matter, how many basics you teach, the ability to win comes only when there is a REAL MATCH.
Someone comes across and says - Hey, why you have stopped conducting tournaments in Bangalore. Yeah why? ABLE CUP players got a lot of experience and many have donned colours for their schools, clubs, state or even national.
SO AN ABLE CUP FOR TUMKUR DISTT. must begin.

TRAINING TUMKUR DISTRICT TEAM FOR DIVISIONAL COMPETITION
A call late in the evening - tomorrow we have district level matches - Please come. A journey of 65kms to TUMKUR is no big deal in the scorpio. Fully dressed up with a whistle I started the matches - to be abruptly interrupted by two `referees'. Accomodating them was a breeze. The primary girls team has been scrapped - why?
The final 12 players selected for divisional matches were the `best' available, of course, there were hardly any good passes or good outside shots. The average basket shooting was around 10 to 15% nothing to crow about. Defence was non-exsistent. The primary boys team [regularly being trained at SUMPOORNA] went on a demolition job - and the moves they did were a lesson for the seniors.
Biting more than I can chew is my specialisation and especially if it is basketball. I have called all the selected players at St Mary's, Gandhinagar, Tumkur at 7am for training. What will it achieve? So what - I must continue to hope, maybe one golden ray of light will shine through. The look on the face of one of the winning girls' team was - WHAT TRAINING YOU CAN GIVE - HAVEN'T WE WON OUR MATCH - ISN'T IT ENOUGH.
I hope I see her - she mirrored me, because I had the same attitude at her age. I keep seeing my own images in the children I train.
