BASKETBALL CAMP FOR GIRLS AT SUMPOORNA

Twelve girls from Bishop Sargent School, Tumkur came for this camp. On the first day, it was pathetic performance in learning. Eating all sorts of junk that they had brought from home - they hardly ate anything. But day two was when `real learning' began. Basic skills in basketball were explained in theory classes supplemented by real practicals. Slowly and steadily they began to dribble the ball with greater ease - they stopped catching the ball with both hands and `no see ball' rule was slowly implemented.

They learnt different dribbling skills in a very disciplined way. The coaches were satisfied. But suddenly a miracle took place. They started playing MATCHES without actually any WWF wrestling or hitting each other. They learnt to read through gestures and body language what their team players wanted them to do. They went into a huddle during breaks and discussed how they are going to play. INDIAN NBA STARS OF THE FUTURE - FROM NOOKS OF RURAL INDIA?
